Essential Tools Checklist
Having specific tools for cutting and mudding will save hours of work.
1. Drywall Knife Set
You need different sizes for layering mud.
Sizes: 6-inch (first coat), 10–12 inch (second coat), 14–16 inch (finishing).2. Cutting Tools
Utility knife (for scoring sheets) and a Drywall Saw (for cutting outlet holes).
3. Screw Gun or Drill
A dedicated screw gun sets depth automatically to avoid tearing the paper.
4. T-Square & Measuring Tape
Essential for straight cuts and accurate layout.
Sanding & Cleanup
- Sanding Pole/Sponge: To smooth dried compound.
- Fine-grit sandpaper: 120–220 grit.
- Mud Pan: To hold compound while working.
Optional but Helpful
Drywall Lift: Highly recommended if you are doing ceilings alone. It holds the heavy sheets in place for you.
